Make it suitable for a variety of readers, for example: opinion-formers policymakers the public the wider research community Guidance for writing a summary Clearly describe your proposed work in terms of: context the challenge the project addresses aims and objectives potential applications and benefits Core team List the key members of your team and assign them roles from the following: project lead (PL) project co-lead (UK) (PcL) specialist grant manager professional enabling staff research and innovation associate technician researcher co-lead (RcL) Only list one individual as project lead UKRI has introduced a new addition to the ‘Specialist’ role type. Public contributors such as people with lived experience can now be added to an application. Find out more about UKRI’s core team roles in funding applications . Application questions Vision Word limit: 1,700 What are you hoping to achieve with your proposed resource? What the assessors are looking for in your response Explain how your proposed work: is of excellent quality and importance within or beyond the field(s) or area(s) has the potential to advance current understanding, or generate new knowledge, thinking or discovery within or beyond the field or area is timely given current trends, context, and needs meets the evidenced needs of clearly identified user groups impacts world-leading research, society, the economy, or the environment and have measurable impact where appropriate Include the following in your statement: the expected added value of the proposed resource, including how it will strengthen the UK bioscience research infrastructure landscape, complement existing investments, and enhance benefits to the bioscience research community how the resource relates to past and current resources in the subject area in both the UK and abroad full details of the resource and an overview of the associated objectives. Details on how these objectives are delivered should be included in the ‘Approach’ section a description of the types of research that will be enabled by the resource consideration of the potential impact on the scientific community and other possibly dependent resources if the resource did not exist how the resource will support its user community, including any training, guidance or skills development opportunities that enable effective use of the resource, and how future needs are identified References may be included within this section. Please note that there is an additional ‘Strategic case’ section for you to further describe the strategic relevance of the resource. You may demonstrate elements of your responses in visual form if relevant. Further details are provided in the Funding Service. What the assessors are looking for in your response Explain how you have designed your approach so that it: is effective and appropriate to achieve your objectives is feasible, and comprehensively identifies any risks to delivery and how they will be managed uses a clearly written and transparent methodology summarises previous work and describes how this will be built upon and progressed will maximise translation of outputs into outcomes and impacts describes how your, and if applicable your team’s, research environment (in terms of the place and relevance to the project) will contribute to the success of the work Include the following when describing your approach: significant technical details for the development, maintenance or enhancement of the resource, indicating how this is of internationally exceptional quality measurable targets against which the outcome of the work will be assessed plans for operational sustainability and legacy beyond the end of UKRI funding. These could include cost recovery models, securing additional funding, development or expansion after the initial period of funding data management approach, including plans for storage, curation, access, sharing, and long-term sustainability. Clearly outline how the resource will comply with relevant data standards, ensure interoperability, and support reuse by the wider research community. Information already included in the ‘Data management and sharing’ section does not need to be duplicated a project Gantt chart identifying a work plan, milestones, appropriate deliverables, responsibilities, and time points for each objective, is a mandatory part of the Approach any proposed research efforts and how they directly facilitate development of the resource (if applicable) if the focus is on maintaining an existing resource detail why the resource needs continued support to maintain world-leading functionality without the need for upgrades (if applicable) if support from or use of a facility is required (if applicable) Describe the specific contribution of each applicant to the proposed resource: their scientific contributions to the program of work their roles and responsibilities, for example, managerial, leadership, mentoring references to specific work packages are recommended highlight where applicants will work collaboratively to deliver specific project requirements include clear time commitments for each applicant There is no need to duplicate information included in the ‘Applicant and team capability to deliver’ section. References may be included within this section. You may demonstrate elements of your responses in visual form if relevant. Further details are provided in the Funding Service. As part of your response provide information about any ongoing funding for the proposed resource from BBSRC, UKRI or other funding bodies, and why additional support from BBSRC is being sought future strategic value: emerging opportunities and developments that could increase the resource’s strategic value and future user demand You may demonstrate elements of your responses in visual form if relevant.
